Estimator

Turn project plans into a cost picture.

Estimators help construction companies understand the likely cost and scope of a project before committing to the work. They review project documents, quantify work, and assemble pricing.

What does a Estimator do?

Review the scope

Read drawings and specifications to understand what the project includes and identify missing information.

Measure the work

Prepare quantity takeoffs—measurements and counts of materials or work items needed for the project.

Gather and compare pricing

Request supplier and subcontractor quotes and check that they cover comparable scope.

Build the estimate

Assemble costs, document assumptions and exclusions, and support bid preparation and project handoff.

This is a general role overview, not a current job posting. Duties, qualifications, and title definitions vary by employer and project.
